Company introduction

Borqs Ltd. (Borqs), established in September 2007, is a hi-tech enterprise dedicated to providing end-to-end software solutions for the whole industrial chain of mobile communications. The major engagement of Borqs is to develop and promote mobile operation platform and its application software. Headquartered in Beijing, the company has offices and R&D centers in the USA, India etc. Borqs is primarily invested by Keytone, GSR, Tsinghua University and NVP(Norwest Venture Partners)VC. The company is also the key active member of Google/OHA (Open Handset Alliance) and Symbian Foundation.

The achievement of mutual benefit is the objective of Borqs's operations and collaborations. Borqs has been determined to be the pioneer and leader in the field of open source application software since its establishment, and has dedicated itself to supporting the development of mobile internet. With this objective in mind, Borqs has developed OPhone OS, Mobile Widget, Big Cloud, Mobee and other applications. In addition, Borqs has also built an OPhone OS based software development network (SDN) for applications software developers.

There are currently several hundred dedicated employees in Borqs, of which over 90% are technical professionals, over 50% of technical forces are in possession of master’s degree or above; While 70% of technical staff have more than 5 years of experience in research & development. The majority of our research & development team consists of previous core experts from well-know mobile terminal manufacturers, as well as research and development institutions in the industry, which includes phone designer/manufacturers (Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Cellon), switching vendors (UTStarcom, Ericsson), Internet content providers (Sina, Sohu), software and hardware enterprises(Microsoft, IBM, Intel) and so on...

The professional management team members of Borqs are from world class wireless communication, telecommunication and semiconductor companies. With over 20 year's professional experience, the whole management team is proficient at promoting and developing the mobile internet basic software, application software and end to end solutions.

Borqs has built significant cooperation relationships with many worldwide mobile communication enterprises, which include operators such as CMCC, Softbank, Vodafone and Verizon; chipset producers Marvell and Qualcomm; terminal enterprises Lenovo, HTC, LG Electronics, Motorola and so on.

Executive Team

Borqs has an established Board and Executive team that bring to the company in-depth/cutting edge “Mobile Telecommunication & Internet” and industry-specific experience, from organizations such as Ericsson, Lucent, Marvell, Motorola, Nortel, Philips and UTStarcom.

Pat Chan – CEO and President

Pat brings over 20 years of executive-level experience in the wireless communication & ICT sector to Borqs. Previously Pat was the SVP & CTO of UTStarcom, where he was responsible for the P&L of the entire UTStarcom’s infrastructure business (wireless, broadband & IPTV). Pat also held senior R&D positions in Motorola & Nortel, responsible for GPRS and Business Passport development worldwide. Pat is a key founding member of Borqs.

David Young – President of International Business

David Young brings over 20 years of executive-level experience in the semi-conductor sector to Borqs. David served as core founding member of Marvell Technology, latest as the worldwide Vice President of Sales at Marvell Semiconductor Inc, Vice President & General Manager of Marvell Mobile Cellular Business Group and Vice President & General Manager of Marvell Connectivity Business Unit. David is responsible for international sales & marketing business (excluded-China) within Borqs.

Bob Li – Senior Vice President, Business Development

Bob brings to Borqs with his wealth of experience in the wireless communication & semi-conductor industry as well as the strong government relationship. Bob was the EVP Advanced Development & CTO as well as EVP Business in Corporate Development at Cellon. He also held senior R&D positions at Philips Semiconductor. Bob is responsible for developing strategic handset business and managing the government relationship (esp. TD-SCDMA) for Borqs.

Howard Li – Vice President, Business Development

Howard has over 20 years of experience in telecom equipment sales and business development. Prior to Borqs, Howard was the GM of WiMAX business Development of Intel China. Howard also held an EVP position at Ericsson China, where Howard had successfully achieved record high sales as well as built up a strong relationship with China Mobile (CMCC). Howard is responsible for the sales and business development of China Mobile OMS and mSpace business.

Rao Hong – Chief Technology Officer & VP Engineering(Handset)

Hong has over 15 years of handset software development experience, a pioneer of Motorola Linux Handset Platform. During his service at Motorola, Hong and his team developed many successful handsets including: Tai Chi, Ming & V-Series. Hong provides technical leadership for Borqs, with overall responsibility for the company’s technology vision and strategy, leads all aspects of Borqs' product research & development and plays a key role in establishing Borqs' strategic R&D today as well as tomorrow.

Steve Long – Vice President, Engineering(System)

Steve joined Borqs in early 2008 and brings over 20 years experience of both Wireless Communication and Network System Development. Prior to Borqs, Steve was the senior R&D director at UTStarcom, responsible for IPTV & Softswitch development. Steve is responsible for the OPhone Server and Mobee Cloud Computing development.

Gene Wuu – Vice President, Product Management

Gene has over 20 years of experience in networking and system development. Prior to Borqs, Gene held senior position as CTO of UTStarcom and head of the Softswitch Business Group. Gene also served at Bellcore as senior R&D staff. Gene is the key project driver for JIL(Joint Innovation Lab) coming project/s.

Greg Zhang – Vice President, Technical Marketing

Greg joined the Borqs executive team in 2007, bringing 20+ years of telecom industry experience within the ICT sector. His most recent role prior to joining Borqs was as the founder of the IPTV products at UTStarcom. Greg is the technical marketing & JIL(Joint Innovation Lab) driver for Borqs solution worldwide.

Hareesh Ramanna –Managing Director, Borqs Software Solutions Pvt Ltd, India and VP of Engineering

Hareesh Joined Borqs in June 2009 and comes with a wealth of experience in the mobile industry. He has managed Global Software Engineering Teams in Motorola and has experience in delivering world class mobile products. He also has experience in business development and setting up new software centers. Hareesh is now engaged in supporting international carriers and OEMs.
